HEYME student health insurance

In Béziers, Nantes, Toulouse, Montpellier, Grenoble and in several other cities in France, numerous complaints have been recorded since March 2022 following mysterious bites in the arm, thigh or buttock during nightclub parties or in festivals.

The mystery remains total, a situation that creates a climate of psychosis! The authorities are still struggling to determine the contours and extent of the phenomenon. At this stage, no arrests have been made.

The symptoms are very variable. While nausea, dizziness, hot flushes and other effects remain the most common, more severe cases of fainting and comas have been reported.

Testimonials are pouring in, and concern is growing! So how do you recognize the symptoms? What to do if you think you’ve been bitten in a nightclub? What are the good reflexes in terms of prevention?

Symptoms of bites in a nightclub?

The stories of the victims come together. Some complainants explained that they only felt the stinging sensation and/or then saw bruises, red spots or redness appear on different parts of their bodies (in the thighs, arms, back, hips, buttocks or even the abdomen) which suggest traces of needle pricks. Others suspect they have been drugged and also report serious symptoms:

  • hot flushes, fever
  • feeling sick, headache, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting
  • dizziness, dizziness, loss of balance
  • black holes, memory problems, hallucinations, amnesia
  • tingling
  • leg paralysis
  • behavioral problems

What to do if you are the victim of one of these bites in the evening?

If you think you have been bitten in a nightclub, do not take the situation lightly and react immediately because every second counts.

Why ? To avoid the disappearance of evidence: traces of bites, detection of a substance before it is no longer detectable in the body and also to protect you from infectious risks.

  • Go to a police station or the gendarmerie to file a complaint as soon as possible. Filing a complaint will allow you to be taken care of immediately in the medico-legal emergency. You will be examined by a medical examiner who will note the lesions before they resorb (traces of injection, bruises). Urine and blood samples will be taken to detect a possible substance. The filing of a complaint allows all the toxicological examinations and analyzes to be covered by the legal costs.
  • If you do not want to file a complaint, classic emergencies are possible, but the treatment can take longer and this slows down the detection of substances. Go to the nearest emergency services or to a free information, screening and diagnosis center (CEGIDD) as soon as possible to carry out an HIV screening and have the possibility of receiving preventive treatment against the risk of infection HIV prophylaxis (PreP) for example. The risk of contamination by the hepatitis B virus is much greater and also present. This is why it is important to also check your serology for hepatitis B in the emergency room.

Attention : You have to react quickly in the event of a sting: You must not give the drug time to take effect, you must talk about it right away.

What if you witness it?

If you see a person in a daze and you think they may have been stung, alert the establishment and call 15.

In the event of an emergency and while waiting for help to arrive, a few things should be done:

  • look for a breath;
  • put the person in the lateral safety position if they are breathing.

Solidarity vigilance is the best defense against crime. When faced with a person in distress, having consumed substances voluntarily or not, it is absolutely necessary to provide assistance.

How to recognize a needle stick?

A syringe prick usually takes the form of a small hole surrounded by a hematoma. It is therefore necessary to observe or mount the whole of his body (or that of the victim) in case of suspicion. The difficulty lies in the fact that the reaction depends on everyone, some will score, others will not.

Prevention: How to avoid getting drugged at a party?

In a public or private party, you must:

  • watch your glass
  • avoid drinking from another person’s glass or consuming a drink that has not been served in front of you
  • designate a team captain who will take care of the group
  • stay close to your friends
  • Avoid dissociating yourself from the group.
