This is what the Spanish captain Contreras, Spanish chief instructor of the training, indicated during a visit granted to the press on the military base San Gregorio of the city of Zaragoza, in the north-east of the Spain. After four weeks of training, the official clarified that the Ukrainian soldiers will leave with a “very acceptable knowledge” Leopard 2A4 tanks, which will be deployed in Ukraine.
55 Ukrainians, 40 tank personnel and 15 mechanical experts, had been sent to Spain. While the training should normally last two months, it has been accelerated, with training 12 hours a day, six days a week.
“They all have knowledge of battle tanks and that helped them retain everything we showed them during the training”explained Captain Contreras, adding: “Although battle tanks are different, there are a lot of similar systems, and that makes it a lot easier.” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced in February the shipment of six Leopard 2A4 tanks, and possibly four more later.
