In Mohe, the northernmost town, a freezing fog paralyzes the inhabitants. “Visibility is very poor. I can’t see anything five meters away. The sun is huge, I don’t know why“, reports a resident. The TF1 video at the top of this article shows a house transformed into an igloo by the cold: at – 53 ° C, the walls resemble those of a freezer.
In this region, the sun does not warm much in winter, the temperature is -30°C on average. But there, such temperatures are unheard of. And the consequences are particularly striking. Breaking an egg is enough to notice this extreme cold: the white freezes almost instantly, and the yolk only takes a few more seconds to crystallize.
