“We are defending our European home”. After London and Paris on Wednesday, Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Brussels on Thursday February 9 to deliver a speech to the European Parliament and meet his partners. Received by an ovation from the deputies, he affirmed that the fight of Ukraine was a fight for Europe. “We are not just defending our territory, we are defending our European home”, pleaded the Ukrainian President who thanked the Heads of State and Government of EU countries for their “unwavering support”. The President of Parliament, Roberta Metsola, for her part, welcomed “a historic day for Europe”.
“Positive signals”. This visit was an opportunity for Volodymyr Zelensky to demand concrete responses from his partners regarding possible deliveries of combat aircraft. Although the Europeans have so far refused to commit to the aircraft requested by kyiv, the Ukrainian president has mentioned “positive signals”. “We want to get these planes that we need and there are agreements which (…) are not public”, he assured during a press conference, without further details. “I just can’t go home with no results,” hammered the leader, who held a series of talks with member states divided into groups.
